Georg Guðni (1961)
Georg Guðni Hauksson was born in Reykjavík. In 1980-85 he studied at the Icelandic College of Art and Crafts, and in 1985-87 at the Jan van Eyck Akademie in Maastricht in Holland like so many Icelandic art students of his generation. Since his first private exhibition in Reykjavík in 1985, Hauksson has attracted much attention for his interpretation of the Icelandic landscape. His paintings of mountains have been characterised by tonal values and a compact simplicity. In his works Hauksson paints "the mountains from his mind" as he has said himself and his silent mountain and landscape paintings are like symbols from Iceland that do not necessarily refer to a special place or mountain. They do result from feelings and a state of mind which is related to a place or places in Icelandic nature and can therefore change from one situation to another.
